As was originally announced in October 2022, Microsoft is in the process of aligning Microsoft Cloud and On-premise pricing globally to US dollar exchange rates.
In the past month it announced that these changes will take place on 1st September 2023 and then again on 1st February 2024. These will then be the dates they will use for their twice-yearly updates moving forward.
Microsoft says that this will ensure that customers across different geographical regions and currencies will receive consistent pricing.
Previously, local currency pricing reviews were on an as-needed schedule, so this represents a significant change. Beginning in FY24 these price reviews will only be made semi-annually (barring extreme events). An example of this would be macro-economic events, or currency devaluations of over 15% over the period of a single month.
Microsoft says that although there will be a price review twice a year, this does not mean that prices for an individual local currency will definitely change on each review. In fact, prices may also be lowered if there are sustained variances in a local currency that demand it.
