Why Microsoft Recommends Moving to Business Central
Key Reasons to Upgrade Dynamics GP to Business Central
Cloud-Based Access and Reduced Infrastructure
Business Central is delivered through the cloud, removing the need for on-premises servers and associated maintenance.
Benefits include:
- Secure access from any location with an internet connection
- Automatic updates without manual intervention
- Reduced reliance on internal IT infrastructure
This approach supports modern working practices and simplifies system management.
Integration with Microsoft Tools
Business Central integrates directly with other Microsoft applications many organisations already use, including:
- Microsoft 365
- Power BI
- Power Automate
This creates a more connected working environment, allowing data to flow between systems and reducing manual effort.
Improved User Experience and Reporting
Business Central offers a modern interface designed to be easier to navigate than Dynamics GP. This can reduce training time and improve day-to-day efficiency.
Reporting and analysis are also improved through:
- Real-time financial and operational insights
- Embedded Power BI dashboards
- Better visibility across departments
Scalability for Growing Organisations
Predictable Costs and Licensing
Moving from Dynamics GP to Business Central introduces a subscription-based licensing model.
This typically means:
- No upfront hardware investment
- Predictable per-user monthly costs
- Licensing aligned to actual usage
For many organisations, this improves budget planning and reduces unexpected IT expenditure.
Security, Compliance, and Resilience
Business Central runs on Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure and benefits from enterprise-grade security controls, including:
- Data encryption
- Multi-factor authentication
- Regular security updates
Built-in backup and disaster recovery capabilities also support business continuity.
Automation and Intelligent Features
Business Central includes tools to reduce manual processes and improve accuracy, such as:
- Automated invoice and approval workflows
- Cash flow forecasting
- Workflow automation using Power Automate
These features help teams focus on higher-value work rather than routine administration.
Support for Remote and Mobile Working
Unlike Dynamics GP, which often relies on VPN or Remote Desktop access, Business Central is available through a web browser and mobile apps.
This supports:
- Remote and hybrid working
- Secure access from laptops, tablets, and phones
- Improved collaboration across teams
Planning Your Move from Dynamics GP
Upgrading from Dynamics GP to Business Central is not a like-for-like technical upgrade. It is a structured migration that involves reviewing processes, data, and reporting requirements.
Early planning allows you to:
- Reduce risk as support deadlines approach
