In September 2024 Microsoft Announced that Support for Dynamics GP (Great Plains) would end on 30th September 2029, this has since been updated to 31st December 2029. This update is to allow GP customers to meet their payroll and taxes obligations for the full year. Security patches will continue until 30 April 2031. If you are a Dynamics GP customer, now is the time to consider making the move to Business Central.

This article explains what the end of support means, why Microsoft is encouraging customers to move, and what to consider when planning your transition.

When Does Dynamics GP Support End?

Microsoft announced in September 2024 that Dynamics GP would reach the end of mainstream support on 30 September 2029. This was later extended to 31 December 2029 to allow customers to complete a full financial year.
Key dates to be aware of include:

  • 31 December 2029: End of Dynamics GP support
  • 30 April 2031: End of security updates
After these dates, Dynamics GP will no longer receive regulatory updates, fixes, or technical support. This increases operational risk, particularly for finance, payroll, and compliance processes.

Why Microsoft Recommends Moving to Business Central

Microsoft is actively encouraging Dynamics GP customers to transition to Dynamics 365 Business Central. Business Central is a cloud-based ERP solution that combines finance, operations, and reporting in a single platform.
Unlike Dynamics GP, Business Central is under continuous development, with regular updates released each year. This ensures the system remains current with changing business, regulatory, and security requirements.
